"I passionately believe that it is my responsibility to pass on my skills to the next generation and this has lead me to teach in a variety of capacities; I have taught people between the ages of 3 and 60 years, drama classes, media classes, private drama sessions, numerous workshops, musical theatre classes and even 'mad science parties'.
I approach all my educational work from a holistic point of view; taking into consideration every individual's overall needs before deciding on the direction we undertake with the classes. Using my own training, experience and theatrical knowledge, my process is always underpinned with solid technique and encourages students to be curious, collaborative and open, whilst supporting their individual talents, goals and needs."
Primarily a theatre director and before that an actress, over the past fifteen years, Ali has also taught as a freelance theatre practitioner; working with numerous companies and organisations, as well as various schools and colleges, all over London, South East England and South West Scotland.
In addition to her freelance teaching, in September 2009 Ali's theatre company (Bunbury Banter) took over the running of Stage Giant’s Saturday School in Ealing, where she used to work as principle and teacher. This has been absolutely fantastic for the company and they were able to not only completely overhaul the basic structure of the school (introducing new media classes and a final production in a professional theatre) but also developed their own unique holistic approach, receiving numerous recommendations and growing in size enormously. This development led the company to expand their education work; creating projects such as 'Bunbanter's Young Theatre Company' and working with a number of schools on productions and supplying private drama lessons.
More recently, in 2015 the company opened a second base in Dumfries and Galloway, tackling a new set of accessibility issues and offering young people access to drama regardless of circumstance. As a community interest company, everyone at Bunbanter is looking forward to celebrating their tenth birthday (in 2016) by offering freeworkshops to schools within our local communities and expanding the company's work further, both north and south of the border.
